Dental bridge

As soon as possible, it is important to replace a missing tooth with an artificial one.

By replacing the missing tooth with an artificial tooth, you will prevent the remaining teeth from becoming misaligned and causing other problems. In addition, the bridge, also called a fixed bridge or fixed partial denture, is permanently installed on neighboring healthy teeth and replaces one or more teeth.

The procedure

  • The dentist prepares the 2 teeth adjacent to the missing tooth so as to receive a crown.
  • The replacement tooth and the 2 crowns are custom made in the laboratory, in one piece.
  • The dentist places the bridge permanently by cementing it to the 2 adjacent healthy teeth.

The bridge should last around 10 years if you take good care of it. Your dentist will show you how to use a floss threader to thread the floss around the artificial tooth in the center of the bridge.

Did you know that edentulousness can cause temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ) and premature tooth wear?
