Rebasing, relining and bone resorption
People who wear dentures are more at risk of developing receding gums. As the jaw bone becomes thinner, the prostheses get too large and need to be adjusted. Two techniques can be used.
First, the relining. This involves adding acrylic to the interior of the prosthesis to fill the void left by the bone. This very rapid method stabilizes the prosthesis and prolongs its life.
The second technique involves the complete replacement of the pink acrylic of the prosthesis: this is relining. It has to be done in the laboratory and takes a little time.
